It was a nice cool day today with a light breeze. Lilly spent the day out in her pasture. Late this evening I decided I needed a little "Lilly time".
Of course she knew I was coming and took off to the back corner of the pasture as always. I usually just ignore her and let her do her thing and don't go back there. Today, I walked back there, saying her name. She took off full speed ahead and was doing loops around the pasture.
I kept walking, trying to tell her to walk towards the barn because it is a smaller space and I can usually get close to her. She ran around her pasture for almost 10 minutes until she exhausted herself! I kept walking slowly, finally I think she tired herself out and she walked up by the barn and let me put my hand on her back.
I didn't put the halter on her. She stood there while I massaged her neck, rubbed the sides of her face and the bottoms of her ears. Exactly how I used to do everyday when she couldn't run away from me.
I told her it was still me and that I didn't have anything planned for tonight other than a few good scratches. I gave her about 5 minutes of rubs and then turned my back on her and ignored her. She stood there for a few minutes and then decided she was free and wild and took off running to the far corner of the pasture, looking at me as though I had 6 heads.....
Silly girl!
I'll try this routine again tomorrow...
